Working with Multiple Components

Because the Component Hierarchy palette supports multiple selection of components, you can modify groups of components instead of modifying individual components. This productivity enhancement allows you to develop your applications more quickly.

Use Ctrl+click to select multiple components in the Component Hierarchy palette. Use Shift+click to choose a range of components.

The ability to select multiple components in the Component Hierarchy palette provides the following productivity enhancements:

  • Drag and drop multiple selections to any location in the Component Hierarchy palette.
  • Move multiple, absolutely positioned components in the Live Component view of the work area. If the Focus Rectangle is enabled in the Component Hierarchy palette, you can move groups of selected components in the work area if they're absolutely positioned.
  • The Component Hierarchy palette context menu can be used on multiple selections.
  • Clone multiple components.
  • Delete multiple components.

When multiple components are selected in the Component Hierarchy palette, other palettes display the following behavior:

  • The Properties Editor palette displays properties that are common to all selected components, allowing you to modify these properties in a single step.
  • The Events Editor palette is active if all selected nodes are of the same class, allowing you to set events for multiple components.
  • The Attributes Editor palette displays attributes common to all selected components, allowing you to modify attributes in a single step.
  • The XSL Parameters palette displays parameters common to all selected components if they are instances of Cacheable. This feature allows you to modify these parameters in a single step. The Name combo box is prefilled only if all selected components are of the same class.
  • All palettes display the text, [multiple values], if the values for the selected components are different.
