Hot Key Collisions

Allowed Keys for Hot Keys Chapter 4 Assigning Hot Keys to GUI Components Assigning Hot Keys to Buttons

Be aware that some hot keys might already be in use. If you attempt to use these hot keys, collisions could occur. For example, General Interface Builder uses Tab and Windows uses Alt+Tab for application switching. To avoid collisions with hot keys already in use, be sure to thoroughly test your hot keys in your running application.

These are the possible areas of collision for hot keys:

  • Operating system
  • Browser
  • General Interface Builder
  • General Interface Framework

General Interface Hot Keys

General Interface uses these hot keys:

  • Menu hot keys used by General Interface Builder. For a list of menu hot keys, see Tools > IDE Settings > IDE Hot Keys in General Interface Builder. Note that these menu hot keys are customizable.
  • Navigation hot keys used by General Interface Builder and General Interface applications — tab, enter, space.

If you want to use General Interface Builder hot keys in your application, such as ctrl+n, your hot key will only work in General Interface Builder if the focus is in the Live Component view of the hot key component. Otherwise, the General Interface Builder hot key executes. The navigation hot keys should not be used.
